Personal Training - A Smart Investment!

Personal Trainer makes fitness more enjoyable:
I am not sure who to send this email to so I decided to send it to all the Refinery emails I could find. I have been a Refinery member for several years now. I have participated in group fitness classes, trained for a half marathon on the treadmills, and I am on my third personal trainer. I just want to let you know that I have never been more inspired and excited to work out than I have been in the past 4 months. I have been working with Danny as a personal trainer and most recently in his Monday night PT challenge class. The rope work that Danny has introduced me to has truly kicked my butt and really forces me to be my best. I feel like Danny really cares about me and what I am doing at the gym and outside of the gym. It is truly wonderful that I can come to the gym and look forward to how Danny is going to surprise me today. His constant encouragement and positive attitude are infectious to me as a client and person. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with such an amazing trainer!

Busy professional makes time for Personal Training:
My name is Jeff Polk and I have been a Refinery member for approximately two years. As a busy professional with competing priorities of work and family, it is often difficult to schedule time for personal fitness. Prior to joining Refinery, I struggled to maintain consistent workouts. At the recommendation of a friend, I visited a Saturday cycling class taught by Dwayne "get your mind right" Bishop. The class was great and I was immediately hooked. I became a member of Refinery and began attending 5:30 a.m. Body Pump and Cycling classes.
Group fitness classes are great because they challenge each individual at their own level. The instructors emphasize technique and make each class fun and challenging. In addition, the combination of Body Pump and cycling has provided me with the weight training and cardio work I need to keep my workouts balanced. Although I have no issues with weight loss, the classes have provided motivation to achieve and sustain an excellent fitness level. Also, I have met a wonderful group of people who share the same passion and commitment to fitness.
Recently, I added personal training to my normal regiment of Body Pump and Cycling. My goal was simply to mix things up a bit to keep my workouts fresh and interesting. My trainer is Nick Katrichis. I have been delighted with the variety he has integrated into my sessions. We have focused on plyometric exercises, BOSU routines, agility ladders, wind sprints and a host of challenging routines. The exercises have improved my core strength, foot speed, balance and overall fitness level. Nick is an awesome trainer and I love how he challenges me. Although I only train with Nick once each week, my sessions have been amazing.
In summary, whether you are an athlete, fitness enthusiast or simply trying to improve your fitness level, I highly recommend either group fitness or personal training. If, however, you want to move your personal fitness to the next level, I recommend doing as I did, integrate both group fitness and personal training into your routine. It is addictive, challenging and fun. You will love the results.

Lifelong fitness enthusiast believes in Personal Training:
"I made the decision to use a trainer because of how stagnant I had become with my workouts. I’ve trained for close to 30 years, but I no longer had the drive or motivation to train as hard as I needed to in order to make gains.
I work with Tony Whitney - and my progress since beginning with him has been outstanding. I have lost body fat and replaced it with lean muscle mass, have obtained significant gains in strength and have worked past some very old nagging injuries.
One of the most important things to realize is that our bodies are incredibly intelligent organisms. They will respond in whatever way necessary to adapt to the challenges we undertake. Unless we train in a way that continually challenges our muscles and endurance, our bodies will adapt to our training methods and we won’t make the gains we are looking for. This is where the value of a trainer comes in. In my case, my trainer has introduced a diverse set of new and challenging exercises that have promoted continued muscle growth and weight loss. He is keenly aware of my strengths and limitations, and constantly modifies my training program accordingly. He also provides motivation and encouragement to get that ‘last rep’ and continue to train hard. For me, the gains I have made speak volumes of the value of a personal trainer.
Everyone today leads a very hectic life. And, the quality of life we live is directly related to our health. The investment in a personal trainer is a small price to pay for achieving your fitness goals and better health. Another important thing to consider is that time spent with a personal trainer is always ‘maximized’. Workouts are planned in advance, resting periods between sets are defined, and your workout progresses in a defined period of time. This makes your time spent in the gym as productive as possible.
I was skeptical of using a trainer at first. As I mentioned, I have trained by myself for nearly 30 years. However, I also realized that I was not making any gains. In fact, I was gaining weight and losing muscle mass and strength. However, after working with a trainer for a very short period of time I began to lose weight and gain muscle mass. My workouts were brief but intense, and I continue to make progress, even after six months of training. I would strongly recommend the use of a personal trainer."
